The Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission administers two grant programs.
Between 2014 and 2016, the James Metzen Mighty Ducks Grant Program granted $5.8 million for improvements at ice arenas around the state. Most grants were made to eliminate the use of R-22 refrigerant and to improve indoor air quality in arenas. The program's funding was not renewed during the 2017 legislative session.
The MASC has a contract with Hennepin County to administer the Hennepin Youth Sports Program. The program makes awards to local government units to improve youth athletic and recreation facilities and purchase capital equipment. The grants are funded by the 0.15% sales tax surcharge in Hennepin County that enabled the construction of Target Field.
